Who are you?

When it comes to new building projects, there are a lot of people involved. Whatever part you play, we can help you get the most out of our network.

Building for the next generation

As a commercial developer, you're at the heart of projects that are shaping our country. And the decisions you make regarding communications for your project are vital.

That's why you need to work with us.

By connecting to our network you'll be offering your customers the widest selection of communications providers and services available. And they'll be supported by more than 21,000 field engineers working throughout the country to maintain it. We're ploughing in £2.5billion to bring super-fast broadband within reach of two-thirds of the UK by 2015.

As well as being able to alter existing networks affected by your project, working with us will help to:

  • Make your development more attractive
  • Get your properties ready for super-fast fibre access
  • Take the pain out of installing networks on-site

But it's not just the quality, reliability and reach of our network that makes it the obvious choice. There's also our knowledge.

You've already got enough things to worry about and manage. So every decision you make has to be right - or it could mean wasted time and money.

By working with us, we'll guide you through everything you need to do, and support you every step of the way. Together, we can plan, design and build a network to ensure your customers have access to the latest services offered by the widest range of suppliers.

What do I do now?

If you're working on a building project you may need to build, alter or upgrade the communications infrastructure serving it. Before you even begin planning, your first port of call should be the next steps section.

There, you'll get an overview of each of the main stages you need to go through when you're developing or connecting to our network. There are also direct links to more detailed information on our portal, including:

  • Installation diagrams with information and construction details required to lay duct, build jointing chambers and provide cables into and in the property.
  • Design rules: Openreach planning guide to help if you need to predetermine where our network should be located. This will have to be agreed with the Openreach Newsite office.
  • Builder's guide to telecommunications infrastructure and installation with step by step instructions for planning and carrying out work. View it now »
  • Working for BT you'll need to enter into a contract with BT if you are carrying out any installation work on behalf of Openreach.
  • Wayleaves (consent in writing) for an overview of the legal rights Openreach requires in order to position network on private and public property.
  • Payment Policies and HBF Agreement summarising the agreement between BT and the House Builders Federation.
  • Openreach policy for on-site workers associated with new build work so you get the best possible communications facilities.

Could superfast broadband add value to your property?

A recent survey by ISPreview.co.uk found that:

74% thought broadband access was "critically important"

69% of UK internet users would be put off buying a new home if it did not have a fast broadband connection

50% would pay more for a property with faster connection speeds than their current home
